South DakotaPDH Required:30 PDH biennially Renewal Date: Biennially, based upon the engineer's initial licensure date. Pre-Approval: South Dakota does not pre-approve providers. Course Content: Content must be relevant to Area of Practice for the purpose of maintaining, improving and expanding the licensee's skills and knowledge. A maximum of 10 PDH may be in professional management subjects with a minimum of 20 PDH in technical subjects directly related to protecting the public's life, heatlh, safety and welfare. Online Courses: Accepted. PDH Carryover: 15 PDH may be carried over to the next renewal period. State Board Website Link IowaPDH Required:30 PDH biennally Renewal Date: December 31st of odd or even-numbered years based upon the year of the engineer's initial licensure. Pre-Approval: Iowa does not pre-approve providers. Course Content: Iowa limits the PDH credits claimed for courses based upon previous knowledge as follows in Group 1 activities: Mathematics and basic sciences - 10 PDH Engineering sciences - 10 PDH Humanities, social sciences and professional ethics - 5 PDH Engineering curriculum including economy - 10 PDH Unlimited PDH credits may be claimed for Group 2 activities that are new fields of study for the engineer. Group 2 typically includes engineering sciences, design, technology, environmental regulations and management. Online Courses: Iowa permits a maximum of 10 PDH credits completed online per renewal period as defined by "independent study" guidelines. PDH Carryover: 15 PDH may be carried over to the next renewal period. State Board Website Link IllinoisPDH Required:30 PDH biennially Renewal Date: Professional Engineers: November 30th of odd-numbered years. Structural Engineers: November 30th of even-numbered years. Pre-Approval: Illinois does not pre-approve providers. Course Content: Content must be relevant to Area of Practice and may include professional skills and/or scientific knowledge. Content may be general or specialized regarding engineering sciences and ethics. Online Courses: Accepted. Structural Engineers are permitted a maximum of 10 PDH for online courses. PDH Carryover: There are no carryover PDH credits permitted. State Board Website Link IndianaPDH Required:30 PDH biennially Renewal Date: July 31st of even-numbered years Pre-Approval: Once continuing education is required for Indiana engineers, civilPDH.com will pursue Approved Provider status as necessary. Course Content: Content must be relevant to Area of Practice and may include technical, professional, managerial and ethical topics. Material must address the public's health, safety and welfare. Pre-Approval: Texas does not pre-approve providers. Course Content: Content must be relevant to Area of Practice. A minimum of 1 PDH is required in the area of professional ethics, roles and responsibilities of professional engineering, or review of the Texas Engineering Practice Act and Board Rules. Online Courses: Accepted PDH Carryover: 14 PDH may be carried over to the next renewal period. Odd and even-numbered licensee's will renew in 2009 for the first year of the new renewal schedule. LouisianaPDH Required:30 PDH biennially Renewal Date: March 31st & September 30th, biennially based upon the engineer's initial licensure date. Pre-Approval: civilPDH.com is an Approved Provider in Louisiana. Course Content: Content must be relevant to Area of Practice and may include technical, ethical and managerial topics. A minimum of 1 PDH is required in professional ethics. Online Courses: Accepted PDH Carryover: 15 PDH may be carried over to the next renewal period. State Board Website Link Note: Reciprocity is granted to an engineer residing and licensed in another state who complies with that state's mandatory continued education requirements. 1 PDH in Ethics is required regardless of reciprocity. Licensees who design buildings for human occupancy must complete a minimum of 8 PDH per renewal period in Life Safety Code, building safety codes and/or Americans with Disabilities Act Accessibility Guidelines. MississippiPDH Required:15 PDH annually Renewal Date: December 31st Pre-Approval: Mississippi does not pre-approve providers. Course Content: Content must be relevant to Area of Practice and may include technical, ethical and managerial topics. 2 PDH in Ethics are required within three renewal periods. If this is exceeded within the three year period, 2 PDH may be carried forward to the next period. Online Courses: Accepted PDH Carryover: 15 PDH may be carried over to the next renewal period. A maximum of 2 PDH in Ethics are permitted to be carried over into the next three year period. State Board Website Link TennesseePDH Required:24 PDH biennially Renewal Date: Biennially, based upon the engineer's initial licensure date Pre-Approval: Tennessee does not pre-approve providers. Course Content: Content must be relevant to Area of Practice for the purpose of maintaining, improving and expanding the licensee's skills and knowledge. A licensee renewing for the first time must have a minimum of 7 PDH addressing health, safety and welfare issues and technical competency. For each subsequent renewal this is adjusted to a mimimum of 13 PDH in that area. Online Courses: Accepted PDH Carryover: 12 PDH may be carried over to the next renewal period. Online Courses: The board does not encourage distance learning but accepts online PDH credits if the licensee is able to demonstrate high quality education and completes a final graded quiz as evidence of achievement. Online Courses: The online education provided at civilPDH.com is classified as an "educational activity" with a maximum of 18 PDH permitted for each three-year registration period.
