Course Synopsis:

Did you know?  High velocities in culverts prevent fish from swimming upstream. When it is determined that fish are present and fish passage must be accommodated, several design items must be considered.

Culverts are used to convey flow through an embankment or past some other type of flow obstruction. Culverts are constructed from a variety of materials and are available in many different shapes and configurations. This course discusses the hydraulic design of culverts.

Course Objectives:

This course teaches the following specific engineering knowledge and skills regarding Culvert Design:

  • Introduction on charts  and nomographs with specific applications

  • Summary of hydraulic design of culverts
