Course Synopsis:

Did you know?  Water has a detrimental effect on pavement performance, primarily by either weakening subsurface materials or eroding material by free water movement.

This course provides guidance for the design and construction of subsurface drainage facilities for airfield runways, taxiways, and aprons. The criteria is limited to situations where the water can be drained from the pavement structure by gravity flow and is mainly concerned with elimination of water that enters the pavement through the surface.

Course Objectives:

This course teaches the following specific engineering knowledge and skills regarding Design of Subsurface Pavement Drainage Systems:

  • G-1 Introduction

  • G-2 Principles of Pavement Drainage

  • G-3 Design of the Pavement Subsurface Drainage System

  • G-4 Stabilization of Drainage Layer

  • G-5 Construction of the Drainage Layer

  • G-6 Collector Drains

  • G-7 Maintenance of Subsurface Drainage Systems
